CyrusOne Expands in Dallas and Houston Data Centers as Cool Economy Heats up Demand for Colocation
February 11, 2009
Globally expanding businesses and increasing reliance on technology infrastructure has prompted CyrusOne to expand its Dallas-area data center. The company announced today it is adding 81,000 square feet to its existing 80,000 square foot Lewisville facility, reflecting strong demand for data center space in Texas markets.
At the same time, CyrusOne has commissioned two new data halls totaling 25,000 square feet in its existing 125,000 square foot Houston campus. Upon completion, CyrusOne will occupy approximately 310,000 square feet of data center space in Texas between five facilities, including two in Houston and three in Dallas.
“These expansion projects are a significant reflection of the persistent growth we are experiencing in Houston and Dallas,” said David Ferdman, President and Chief Executive Officer for CyrusOne. “Despite the economic downturn, our momentum within these markets continues to thrive, as companies consolidate their national data centers in a colocation facility to minimize overall infrastructure costs and avoid significant capital expenditures.”
CyrusOne offers the highest density data centers in the Southwestern United States, currently supporting server installations that utilize up to 1,000 watts of power per square foot, versus traditional 120 watts per square foot offered by competitors. This high density enables customers to confidently implement more sophisticated applications and handle larger volumes of mission-critical information, a trend that will grow even more important in the years to come.
“Colocation is seeing increased popularity as more enterprises face difficulties in making capital data center investments,” said Dan Golding, vice president and research director for Tier 1 Research. “The Dallas market, in particular, is extremely popular among colocation customers. High-quality, carrier-neutral Dallas data center space is moving quickly in a market that will see strong growth over the next four years.”
Also driving demand in the Dallas area is the city’s central location and heavy fiber networks. The region also has few power problems.
The CyrusOne facilities are designed for zero downtime. They accommodate the latest server technologies in a fully redundant, 2N power and cooling configuration. CyrusOne engineers all data centers with multiple levels of uninterruptible power supplies and diesel generators, the data centers represent the largest high-density, fully redundant facilities in the Southwest region.
