History
of CyrusOne
BACKGROUND
2000
August
CyrusOne is founded. First 11 months devoted
to building the management team, designing
solutions and processes, development of
enterprise management systems, and data
center construction.
2001
June
CyrusOne opens Houston data center doors.
Launch unexpectedly coincides with the assault
of Tropical Storm Allison. Event creates
new awareness about system vulnerability
for many Houston businesses and institutions.
September
Tragic events of 9/11 and the infamous Enron-type
securities scandals lead to a number of
federal regulations including the Patriot
Act and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. These regulations
placed a renewed emphasis on business continuity
and disaster recovery plans and solutions.
CyrusOne formalizes
a series of services to help companies meet
new system availability and security requirements
as well as incorporating their personnel
logistics and workspace issues.
The technology economy
declines sharply. External investment slows,
companies IT budgets are frozen to capitalize
on the investments made during the Y2K period.
2002
CyrusOne secures several enterprise clients
including two Fortune 500 “anchor
clients.”
CyrusOne launches remote
enterprise monitoring and management (monitoring
and managing critical devices remote from
our data center) as well as NOCC services
leveraging the company’s investment
in the HP OpenView platform.
CyrusOne rolls out Internet-based
client portal to clients. Client Operations
Portal enables receipt of a seamless, real-time
look at the status and performance of their
entire network from any location supporting
Internet log-in.
CyrusOne reaches major
milestone, Phase I of data center build-out
reaches 60% of capacity. Managed services
sees growth among clients in various industries
including financial services, energy, medical,
technology, legal, call center, and others.
CyrusOne continues to
see momentum as over 90% of clients increase
services with CyrusOne within the first
12 months of service.
Client surveys continue to exhibit positive
feedback as CyrusOne receives “Excellent”
or “Very Good” marks when ranked
on service delivery and client satisfaction.
Sales cycles are still over double the initial
forecast.
2003
CyrusOne leverages the expertise of its
world-class staff to launch a variety of
IT infrastructure consulting services. Key
competencies include assessment, design
and implementation including network performance
and design, network security, fault and
performance management, as well as change
control management.
By Q2 we were remotely
monitoring over 2,000 critical network devices
and servers throughout North America and
Europe from our Houston NOCC.
Continuing to respond
to client needs, CyrusOne boasts an extensive
list of providers including 11 competitive
telecommunications providers, 8 of which
are Metropolitan Network Providers in our
data center. (A unique offering in our industry,
the menu of providers gives our clients
more choices and lower price points for
this critical element of their IT infrastructure.)
CyrusOne completes that
acquisition of Pro-Tier, a New Orleans based
hosting and ASP provider, completed. CyrusOne
moves all customers to Houston.
Client base now includes
numerous publicly traded enterprise corporations
with combined market capitalizations of
over $1 Billion.
2004
CyrusOne increases investment in consulting
services by acquiring some of the assets
of Adaptive IT as well as the addition of
industry experts to the staff.
CyrusOne prepares for
Phase II of the data center build-out, an
event that will expand capacity within the
current 65,000 sq. foot facility.
CyrusOne is strongly
positioned to compete and succeed as the
industry begins using new “Compute
on Demand” terminology for many of
the same services CyrusOne has provided
for 3 years.
CyrusOne prepares to open a second 18,000
sq. foot facility in Northwest Houston
2005
CyrusOne completes Phase II of it's flagship
facility located on the Southwest freeway,
expanding an additional 6,000 sq. feet.
Phase III is expected to open in early 2006.
CyrusOne's Greenspoint
facility opened its doors in early April
as trend in IT Infrastructure outsourcing
continues. The 18,000 sq. foot Greenspoint
facility give customers additional flexibility
and business continuity options.
2006
Phase III of the Houston data center is complete. A significant portion of the customers
we are working with are members of the Oil
and Gas / Energy community in Houston. We
are finding that our knowledge of this industry
and the experience we have in this industry
are beneficial to our customers in that
we already understand their challenges and
goals. In June 2006, CyrusOne opened an enterprise data center in Dallas located downtown in the Univision Tower at 2323 Bryan Street. CyrusOne has successfully migrated the critical computing systems for various customers operating high availability production systems into this enterprise class facility.
2007
CyrusOne was acquired by ABRY Partners, a media and communications focused, Boston-based private equity firm. Since 2001, CyrusOne has built a strong presence in the high availability colocation and managed data center services marketplace. Over the past four years, the company has achieved strong top line and bottom line growth with a prominent niche in the energy, financial services, and healthcare marketplaces. With the completion of this transaction, CyrusOne seeks to accelerate its expansion. CyrusOne’s existing management team will continue their leadership of the company.
